Empreintes Sonores

Empreintes sonores turns ephemeral sound into a spatial, luminous experience: participants speak or make sound near a hidden voice-activated sensor, and their voice is captured, frozen, and projected as a glowing waveform. Moving sideways through the projection, visitors physically explore the shape of their own voice - shifting from passive listening to embodied navigation of sound in space. Conceived as an adaptable nighttime piece, it invites reflection on how the listening devices around us continuously capture the world - made visible, for once.

About the Artist

Empreintes sonores is created by Victor Drouin-Trempe and Jean-Philippe Cô, two Quebec-based interactive media artists. Victor is a sound artist, researcher, and PhD candidate in Art Studies and Practices at UQAM, whose work explores the concept of "living sound." Jean-Philippe is a media artist and respected open-source contributor known for repurposing technological waste into interactive installations; he teaches interactive media at Collège Édouard-Montpetit. Their work has been presented internationally at venues including Ars Electronica (Austria), the Museu do Amanhã (Brazil), Venice's Arsenale, and the 404 Festival (Mexico), and won a Numix Award for Digital Art - International in 2024.
