Zero Views Museum

Zero Views Museum

Our consumption of digital art is increasingly mediated by recommendation systems that prioritize popularity; the more views an artwork has, the better it must be and the more it deserves to be shown.

Zero Views Museum responds to this context by employing counter functional design principles to create an immersive virtual reality experience that exclusively exhibits digital artworks with zero views. Once viewed, works are permanently removed from the database, making participants both the first and potentially last person to see them.

This encounter invites reflection from participants: Are algorithms good judges of artistic worth? What unseen works have already been lost? And does our perception of art change when we know we can never see it again?

About the Artists:

Jayden comes from a background in Systems Design Engineering at the University of Waterloo, specializing in computer vision for his MASc. His artistic practice evolved through professional experience in user experience design and work in interactive art and human-computer interaction. He took CS 889 (Interactive Art & Creativity) to explore the intersection of art, algorithms, and immersive experiences, where he developed projects involving p5.js, hand-tracking, generative AI, and experimental interface design. Through weekly prototyping, he explored how computation shapes artistic experience, leading to the conception of Zero Views Museum.

A special thanks to his collaborators Shaan, Selina, and Aaron for their instrumental help in bringing the physical installation to life, and to Dr. Daniel Vogel and Dr. Zachary McKendrick for their advising.
