Plenum
Plenum is a light and sound installation built around two theremin inspired stations and three light organs. Each station responds to the movement of your hands through air. Flowing like wind from one organ to the other, the intensity of light, sound and speed changes with the gestures of the players. The word plenum comes from Latin, meaning “full.” In philosophy and physics, it describes a space that is never truly empty, the opposite of a void. What we perceive as empty air is, in fact, filled with matter, energy, and invisible forces that are always already present. The piece Plenum, builds on this idea by inviting audiences to play with that “empty” space inside the theremins. Through interaction, these subtle forces become perceptible. Movement becomes sound. Sound becomes light. And light reveals what was always there.
Plenum will be in Waterloo Public Square from September 19 to October 19, 2026.
